Howdy all!
I've decided to link up with Farmchick over at Fresh From the Farm for her Homemade by You ~Mondays.
Each Monday I hope to have a new and yummy creation to share with you all. (Keeping my fingers crossed that I can keep up!)
Anyways, today I'm gonna share my Broccoli Crescent with you. It's easy to put together and pretty tasty too!
Parmesan Broccoli Crescent Pie
12 oz. bag of frozen broccoli cuts
3 tbsp. water
2 - 8oz. packages of crescent rolls
1 cup fresh grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup milk
14.75 oz. can of cream of mushroom soup
Place broccoli and water in a microwave safe dish, cover and cook on high for 3 1/2 minutes.
Stir broccoli and place back in microwave for another 3 1/2 minutes, drain and set aside.
Place one package of crescent rolls in the bottom of a greased 13X9 pan.
In a mixing bowl, combine cheese, milk, soup and drained broccoli.
Pour mixture over crescent layer.
Place second package of crescent rolls on top.
Bake at 350° for 20 minutes or until brown.
Enjoy!
Stitchery News! (For those of you wondering)
I didn't get my new stitchery totally finished over the weekend but I'm close to it. I ran out of blue thread so I had to wait until today for our local sewing shop to open so that I could get some more. So frustrating when you're that close to being done and then have to quit. I could have run over to the mall (30 minutes away) to get the thread but I figured why waste the gas money when I can get it local at the beginning of the week.
Hopefully I'll get it finished tomorrow so I can show it to you...and start another project!
This is gonna be a great weekend. Last night a cold front rolled through here bringing much cooler (70's) and less humid weather. I've actually got the A/C turned off and the windows open and I've traded my tank tops in for t-shirts.
Absolutely perfect weather...in my opinion!
Now the house is cleaned, the laundry is done so what is left for me to do over the weekend?
Not a darn thing other than sitting around stitching on this cute sampler.
Oh, and I can't forget sitting around a fire in the backyard during the evening hours making smores with the kids. :0)
Now back to the stitching part~
I purchased a few new patterns today from CHESTNUT JUNCTION. The one in the picture that I'm working on is called "Folky Favorites". I traced it onto a cream colored piece of wool and got started on it immediately. I hope to get a bunch of it done this weekend...maybe even finish it!
By the way, if you are in need or "want" of a few new stitchery patterns then hurry on over to Chestnut Junction. She's having a sale on all of her stitchery patterns until the end of June. (99 cents each)
Well, I'm off to stitch a bit.
Hope you all have a great weekend!
Yippee!
I finally finished Katie's scrap quilt the other day so I can mark that off my list and go on to my next project ~whatever that may be.
I can't believe that more than a 1/3 of our summer vacation is already gone.
Where did it go??
I have so many things that I want to get accomplished before school starts back but I just can't seem to get my butt in gear. It's much more fun to sit outdoors watching the kids splash and play in the pool or catch fireflies late into the evening.
I have been working on some stitching while sitting outside but I'm not real impressed with the way it's turning out so I may skip this block and improvise with a little something different. I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to improvise with but I've got an idea. Once I get it figured out I'll share it with you.
Katie and I went to the library with some friends last week to see Granny Sue. That is the second time I have seen Granny in action and I can tell you that she does a fabulous job of storytelling. She always interacts with the kids by bringing them up front to help her with her storytelling. This years stories were from far away lands and the kids each got to pick an animal puppet or some drums to use in the story. There was some quiet listening time, a few songs to be sung and a dragon craft to be completed. A fun day for all!
We've had a bit of rain and stormy weather this past week. This shed sits on a neighboring property and as you can see the wind or lightning brought part of a tree tumbling upon it. I'm guessing it was wind, however we had some *awesome* lightning that night and I saw a great big streak come down near that tree so I'm not sure which caused it.
The only other "excitement" going on around here is that I'm getting ready for a yardsale. Lots of "junk" to go through!
Some of the items I've been listing on Ebay and doing rather well.
I've learned over the years that there is no rhyme or reason with Ebay. Sometimes things will sell and other times not.
This must be one of those good times!
Well that's about all that is happening in my neck of the woods. I'm way behind in my blogging as well as reading all of your blogs but I'll get caught up soon. Just too busy soaking up the sunny weather!
Try these roasted kale chips in place of potato chips!
Delicate yet crispy with lots of salty goodness.
Dinner was at Mom & Dad's yesterday and when I walked into their kitchen I saw this crispy and slightly browned bowl of "weeds" sitting on the counter.
"What in the world is that?", I asked.
Mom informed me that it was roasted kale.
Well, I'm not a big fan of kale but I had to try this.
CRUNCH...CRUNCH
MMMMMMmmmmm....it was actually good!
Good enough that my husband even liked them and trust me that's saying something. He's a man who calls vegetables "rabbit food" and eats very little of them. Actually, now that I think of it he probably never even knew what kale was let alone what it tasted like before yesterday.
Roasted Kale Chips
Wash and dry kale.
Place on a greased baking sheet in a single layer.
Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle generously with sea salt.
Roast in a 275 degree oven for 20 minutes.
Carefully turn kale over and bake another 20 minutes or until crisp.
Cool and enjoy!
Here's a quick dessert salad to toss together. It's a perfect cool treat for these warm summer days.
Candy Apple Delight
8oz. Cool Whip
16oz. crushed pineapple, drained
3 Granny Smith apples
3 Snickers candy bars
1/2 cup peanuts
Combine Cool-Whip and drained pineapple in a bowl.
Peel, core and slice the apples, then cut the slices into quarters. (bite size pieces)
Cut the Snickers into small cubes.
Chop the peanuts.
Stir apples, candy and peanuts into the Cool-Whip mixture.
Refrigerate & Enjoy!
This photo isn't that great but trust me the dessert IS!
We've had a break this week from all the hot and humid weather. It's stayed in the 70's and been beautiful so I've spent most of my time outdoors and away from my computer, hence the reason for my lack of posting. It's been a bit cool for the pool but we've stayed out late each night while the kids catch fireflies and play with their friends. By the time I get in, showered and ready for bed I'm just too tired to stay on the computer for very long. So if I haven't been by your place to say HI recently you know why.
I'm enjoying every minute of the summertime!
Do you want to scream each time you try to leave a comment on a blog and it won't let you?
Blogger just keeps spinning you in circles asking you to sign in and then your comment shows up as an anonymous comment.
Then you go back to edit it and Blogger sends you spinning again.
Sound familiar?
If it does then you must go HERE and read how to fix the problem. It worked for me!
Thank you Carmen for passing this link on to me ((HUGS)) and thanks to Meadowbrook Cabin Primitives for posting it!
That's Gage in the above photo and I love it ~ he looks so funny in those big goggles.
It's been very hot , humid and muggy here in our neck of the woods so we've spent lots of time in the pool keeping cool. Our pool gets full sun the whole day so the water has been staying around 86-90 degrees which is nice when you first get in. (No shock to your system from the coldness)
However, in this hot heat it could stand to be a few degrees cooler but hey I'm not complaining. At least we've got a way to cool down. I was watching tv yesterday and they were talking of all the shelters that people are having to flee to just to get cooled down.
So many people have breathing issues and this high heat and humidity just make it so much harder to deal with.
Lucky for us the weather is supposed to cool down on Sunday.
I'm glad we have A/C but I'd much prefer to have my windows open so I look forward to the cooler temperatures next week.
Our gardens sure are liking this weather. I've got tomatoes, green beans, bell peppers, banana peppers, squash and zucchini in this little mini garden.
Bell Peppers
Squash
Zucchini
Tomatoes
Over in the other garden at my Mom & Dad's we have lots and lots of tomatoes, more banana peppers and some cucumbers. This garden was planted several weeks after the mini one so it's plants are still on the small side but they are growing.
That's it for today.
Hope you all can stay cool and have a great weekend!
I finally received my new stove on Saturday.
If you haven't read about my issues with Sears then you can read about it HERE.
My stove was scheduled to be delivered between 3-5p.m. on Saturday. However, at 8:30 that morning I received a call from them stating that they were running behind and they were booting my delivery up to 5-7p.m.
I said that's ok, we'll be here waiting.
Well 7pm came and went and still no stove.
I called Sears to find out what the problem was and they said they would contact the delivery guys.
About 45 minutes later I got a call from the delivery truck telling me that they were still 45 minutes away from my house.
Finally, around 8:30 that night they pulled up in front of the house.
I was digusted but remained polite with the men.
They claimed that Sears gives them the routes that they are to take and they are to follow them.
So what that means is that they left Pittsburgh Saturday morning and stopped in Wheeling (which is 20 minutes away from my house) and then traveled on to Ohio. I was the last stop on their return loop back to Pittsburgh. Which is also fine but both men said that they drive more miles than are really neccesary due to Sears pre-planning their routes.
Saturday they drove over 200 miles when they could have shortened it to about 150 miles. My guess is that Sears is using a computer system to plan their routes. Sometimes a little common sense gets you a whole lot farther than a computer program.
Anyways, I finally have my new stove and everything seems to be working fine. I'll continue to keep my fingers and toes crossed so that I won't have to deal with Sears anymore on this issue.
I decided to try out my new oven by making this blackberry cobbler.
Happy to say that the oven heated to the exact degree and remained there the whole time which resulted in this yummy berry treat.
Blackberry Cobbler
1 cup self-rising flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1 stick butter, melted
1-2 cups blackberries
In a greased 8x8 or 11X6 baking dish, place enough berries to cover the bottom.
In a large bowl, mix remaining ingredients and then pour mixture over top of the berries.
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
Enjoy warm with a scoop of ice cream.
This is my all time favorite chicken recipe to make during the summer months.
Now I know you all are going to think I'm crazy but before I grill this I actually boil the chicken until it's cooked thoroughly.
I'm paranoid about not getting the chicken cooked well enough on the grill without totally burning it to a black.
Grilling is just not my thing! :0)
Anyways it's quick and easy to cook the chicken on top of the stove in the morning while it's still cool outside. Once it's cooked and cooled I refrigerate it until dinnertime.
About a half and hour before it's time to eat I just grab my chicken from the fridge and prepare these packets. Toss on the grill for about 20 minutes and wahla!
A quick yet tasty meal.
Oh, and if there are any leftovers (which there usually isn't) my son claims the chicken makes an excellent sandwich heated up with some cheese melted on top.
My Favorite Grilled Chicken Packets
1 bag frozen chicken breasts or tenderloins
Large stockpot of water
Montreal Steak Seasoning
Worcestershire Sauce
Cooking Spray
Aluminum Foil
Place chicken in water and bring to a boil. Continue boiling until chicken is thoroughly cooked. Drain, cool and refrigerate chicken.
Prepare chicken packets about a 1/2 an hour before dinnertime.
(Makes approximately 5 packets)
Take 5 pieces of aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray.
Cut cooked chicken into bite size pieces and divide between the 5 packets.
Sprinkle with Montreal Steak Seasoning and pour desired amount of worcestershire sauce over chicken. I usually have a puddle of worcestershire that my chicken sits in.
Fold aluminum foil into packets.
Place on a heated grill and cook 20-25 minutes on a medium/low heat turning packets every so often.
Serve with a few side dishes and enjoy!
Hi all,
Yesterday both of my boys went with their aunt and cousin for the day so that left Katie and I at home all by our lonesome.
Hmmmm....what shall we do for the day?
Well, we had a few errands to run in the morning and then we decided to work on a new quilt for Katie.
I've had the Cinderella fabric for quite some time and that is what she grabbed first. Then we just used some odd and end scrap strips and began piecing them together.
Katie helped by cutting out all the Cinderella blocks. A few got cut a tad too small so that is why one whole row is missing the bottom border. Oh well!
Not bad for a last minute idea. It's by far perfect but she's quite happy with it and it kept her entertained for the day.
We finished the quilt top a little after lunchtime and we were hungry. We grabbed some lunch from out and took it down by the river to eat as we watched the river traffic while sitting under the shade trees.
After our bellies were full we played at the playground a bit and then Pap called wanting to take a bike ride. So we headed home to load the bikes and then back to the river to get on the bike trail.
Today I hope to get the backing done for Katie's quilt.
Tomorrow my new stove is being delivered which I won't hold my breath on that. I'll believe it when it gets here.
Other than that our weekend will probably be spent cutting grass and cooling off in the pool.
Hope you all have a good one!
