I am finding myself in that slump again. I think it's those dreaded winter blah's and all this snow.
It's not like I'm bored. I have many things to do.
If you remember I am working on a quilt, an afghan and a stitchery as well as being in the middle of a good book that I've been reading~ and those are just my hobbies.
Don't forget the everyday things like homeschooling, cooking, cleaning, laundry and all those other lovely chores that we have.
So what is my problem?
I think my problem is that I am so ready for spring.
I've got that itch to start my spring cleaning which I don't really have the time for till school is over with but I've got that urge to rip everything out of closets and off of shelves, clean and reorganize it all. I would love, love, love to get outside and go for a walk everyday or even take a bike ride. However, as you can see from the photo above that spring is no where near us yet.
Boo-hoo, boo-hoo!
Oh well, I have no control over the weather so I might as well suck it up and get back to the things that I can do. I intend to work more on my quilt this weekend and I'll try to remember to take a picture so that I can show you how it's coming along.
Now, here is how the schoolroom fits into this post.
I stopped by The Country Blossom this morning to see what Katy and the kids were up to and she had posted about her schoolroom.
She homeschools her children as well and had recently reorganized her classroom. (She must have a little SpRiNg FeVeR too.) Anyways, she asked to see what other homeschooler's classrooms look like so I snapped a few picture of ours to show and share with everyone!
I must say though, that we do not really use just one room for our classroom. One day we may find ourselves downstairs at the school desk and the next we may be at the kitchen table or even outside. We also have those days that one child works in one area and the other works elsewhere. I find that if I mix it up a little bit the kids enjoy it more and seem to be more open-minded and IN to whatever lesson they are learning. Especially if it is not a favorite subject of theirs.
Now for the tour.
This first one is a partial of our downstairs. It's kind of like two big open rooms that are connected yet seperated if that makes any sense. This is where most of our schooling takes place.
The kids have this old school desk. The top flip opens to a place where they can store their textbooks.
Our computers are also located downstairs so here I am working at my desk.
These bookshelves once held all my country accents and knick-knacks but now they are used to hold a good many of our schoolbooks. It's a little messy at the moment! (Remember that Spring Fever cleaning thing I talked about.)
Now if you will come on upstairs with me to the kitchen I will show you where the rest of school takes place.
Right here at the kitchen table! This is where the kids do many of their craft projects. Gage is working on tissue paper art in this photo.
The other subject that we do upstairs at the kitchen table is Math. We have a large chalkboard hanging on the wall behind the table that makes a great place to teach math problems. The kids love it when I ask them to go to the board to do a problem. Again, it's all in the approach. I find that the more interesting and fun I can make a topic the more they learn from the lesson.
Well that's all for our mini-tour. I'm off to put next weeks school lessons together so that I can relax and enjoy my weekend. My snowy weekend full of stitching, I hope!
Hope you all enjoy yours!
Tee-hee, I seem to remember someone "wishing" for some of that pretty snow awhile back ;) Your house looks so neat and organized, everything in it's place:) I LOVE the school desk and the chalkboard!!!
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing where you guys do your schooling! :) The desk is awesome!!!! :) And I love your chalkboard too!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for visiting my blog and for your super sweet comment! I really appreciate it and also am so glad you shared your schooling areas with us!!! :)
Have a great weekend!
I feel bad for everyone who have been getting so much snow. If that were happening here I would surely lose my mind! :(
ReplyDeleteWhat a special gift you are giving your children by schooling them at home.
I hope you get to do whatever it is you want to do the days you have "off."
Carmen,
ReplyDeleteYou are so right! I love snow! But this is getting ridiculous. We have had more this year than what we have probably had for several years all combined.
I think you could teach a lot of professional teachers a thing or two about motivating students!
ReplyDeleteThat's just too much snow this year. I worry for spring, for the big melt. So many live where creeks and rivers could be a problem.
My daughter's last day of public school was today. We've made the decision to pull her out and homeschool her. I'm terrified and excited all at the same time. She is excited about it and hasn't stopped jabbering since she got home today! She has all the confidence in the world in me, so I'm praying that it will be good. I look forward to reading lots of homeschooling blogs for support an advice! :)
ReplyDeleteI think that all that snow would give me spring fever too!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your tour of places you do homeschooling. I am tired of the snow too and trying to think Spring!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Marie
