Hillbilly Hideaway for the Kids

My Dad played around in the backyard with the kids this weekend. He repaired the fort that he had built them a few years ago and then added bigger walls and a roof. The kids had a blast helping him.

I had to make fun of Dad though. I told him it was like a hillbilly festival going on in his yard...
a crude little wooden shack built with old used lumber, no tape measures used~ just eyeball it, cut and nail.
A few sheets of metal for the roof and now the kids can sit out there when it rains and not get wet. How cool!

The TRUE hillbilly shined through though when he drug out an old bathtub from the building and filled it with water for the kids to play in.

Who needs a pool when you've got a bathtub??

I couldn't resist taking pictures of the kids at play.
This is what happens when you pick on your older brother.

You get picked up and dunked in the bathtub.

All in all it was a nice and relaxing weekend.
Dad & I got to take a bike ride each day down by the river.
The kids splashed and played in the pool in our backyard (not to be confused with the bathtub)
and as usual we gobbled up way too much picnic food which resulted in naps needed.

So what did you all get into for the holiday weekend?

What fun and the kids will remember things like that forever. When we were young our grandad had an old saw mill and we would get the outer slabs from the trees he milled and build forts or cabins everywhere. They remain to wonderful memories for me so your boys will remember them as fond times too.
