The Ohio Spills Over Again

This is the second time this month that the Ohio River has threatened to overflow it's banks.
The first of the month brought rain and snow melt which caused the river to rise but luckily it fell just short of the flood stage sparing many that live nearby it's banks.

Now, a week and a half later it's happening all over again.
Several days of rainfall that ended with snowfall last night and flurries today have brought the mighty Ohio up again. The river is expected to crest tomorrow at 41.8 feet which is more than 4 1/2 feet above flood stage.

We were out and about this morning so we thought we'd ride by the river to see the sights.
The water was near the road and spilling over in a few places. The street crews were placing barriers up and those living close by were packing items and moving them to higher ground.

We checked out a few other spots near the river while we were out or shall I say we tried.
We've gone fishing before on the other side of those bridges ~ but not today!

I'd love to be able to get some more pictures tomorrow as the water rises even more but I doubt that will happen. Most of the streets near the river have been blocked off as of this evening for safety.

Well, I'm off to bed now.
Hope you all have a great weekend.
Mine is going to be relaxing. My birthday is on Sunday and I'm planning on spending my weekend doing absolutely nothing.
Nothing that is that I don't want to do! (cooking, cleaning, dishes, etc.)

UGH, I hope that water goes down soon! We had a creek cross our property when I was a teenager that flooded and took our garage with it, may have to do a post on it sometime. I hope you enjoy every single minute of doing nothing on your Birthday dear friend, you deserve a break:) Sending a great (((((BIG HUG))))) your way!

Hi Jessica, as you know, I live on the Ohio River a bit further south from you. It is quite high. We have roads closed and flooding in places we haven’t seen in years. Thankfully we live on a hill so no flooding from the river but the rains have been so heavy we have had flooding on the property in certain areas but it is draining fast. The sun and wind this weekend have helped. Hope you all are staying dry!

We saw the Ohio river overflowing it's banks this past weekend, it was already over some boat docks, and half way up the lower level of a two story home near Maysville, Ky. It looked like other homes may be in danger, as well. The river hasn't crested yet. Those that live in those low lying areas need our prayers. Many Blessings.
