Not So Greasy Sausage Gravy

My husband likes sausage gravy for a morning breakfast or even a quick supper. The thought of using all the grease that most home recipes (the good & fattening) call for just makes me sick thinking about it. I found this recipe that doesn't use a lot of grease and you use water along with the milk. It is really good!!! Not a watery mess....Just try it.

Sausage Gravy

1 lb. sausage (Bob Evans- it doesn't have a lot of grease)
6 tbsp. flour
1 1/2 cups water
2 1/4 cups milk
3/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. paprika

Cook sausage.
Leave the grease in the pan (about 1-2 tbsp.) and sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir. Let cook for a minute till it turns a golden brown and is bubbly.
(Sometimes mine doesn't have enough grease to bubble but it will still work.)
Add the rest of the ingredients and let simmer till it thickens.
Serve over biscuits or toast.

I sometimes double the gravy portion of this recipe to make it stretch farther.
To do this I increase the gravy ingredients to:
9 tbsp. flour
2 1/4 cups water
3 1/2 cups milk
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. paprika
