Left Handed Knitter

Look what I have finally learned how to do!!!!
I have tried for so many years to knit and have failed each and every time.
The problem....I'm left handed!
Everyone that I know that knits is right handed so when I try to learn from them I have to watch them and then reverse each step which NEVER works!
I've also read through many a knitting books and have tried to learn from the little picture diagrams....well that hasn't worked either.

All of you other knitting bloggers inspire me with your wonderful creations. So much that I was bound and determined to find a way to learn.
Thanks goodness for the internet and YouTube!
A simple search on Google led me HERE where I have an instant teacher (and one who is left handed) that I can start and pause how ever many times I may need until I get the stitch down.
I started out with a purple yarn but quickly switched to a cotton. It seemed much easier to work with as I was learning to juggle needles and thread within my fingers.
Now don't laugh!
These are the first stitches that I created. It's nothing more than a practice piece and look how many holes are in it. I definitely need more practice.
I continued and then moved on to some soft pink baby yarn. My hope is to make Katie a soft winter scarf. (without holes :0)
Now that I have the basic stitch down I need to go back and learn the rest of the stitches. I think that will take some time though to learn them all and to memorize them well enough to be able to read a pattern and know what each stitch means. But that's OK.
I'm just tickled that I can finally do it!

It looks perfect to me! I don't know how to knit. Granny did try to teach me but I just didn't get the hang of it and wasn't around her enough at that time to keep it up. I can't imagine trying to figure out how to do things left handed. I'm glad you found a video online of someone left handed to show you how to do it!

I have been trying to learn for a year, and I'm right handed, still so far to go!

Congrats to you...I haven't tried because I know I will not get it, but I really want to learn. I think I'll look to see if there is a right hander!
Thanks for the tip...Great Job!

I feel your pain! I learned too--actually I've learned several times over, but never kept with it. Being lefty makes a lot of things difficult to learn, doesn't it? I would never have though of trying youtube. You're on your way :)

Great start to a wonderful rewarding hobby. It is so gratifying to make something for a family member or a friends baby. Or to strut your own stuff. I was lucky to have my mom teach me to knit many moons ago. You will learn not to have holes. Most knitters when they are learning make their stitches too tight. Relax your fingers. The secret is to make sure your needle goes into the middle of the stitch. Dont split that stitch, dont drop that stitch. Slow down and eye each stitch you make and I promise it will become second nature and you will be going lickity split in no time... Cant wait to see a project finished. Now if only I could learn how to tat I would be a happy camper.
