Since these winter evenings don't seem to be getting any shorter I have found myself spending more time in front of the TV. I have been heading to the couch or to bed in the evenings with a stitchery or crochet project in my lap. While working away I have been watching and re-watching some of my favorite movies.
I am a definite hopeless romantic when it comes to books and movies and I love, love, love historicals set back in time.
My all-time favorite movie is the "Love Comes Softly" series from the Hallmark Channel which will be airing all day on Saturday the 27th.
These movies are based on the "Love Comes Softly" novels written by Janette Oke.
They are set back in time and tell a story of the trials and tribulations of a family as they venture westward and how their faith in God guides them through the good and bad that each day brings. If you love historical romances then chances are you will love these.

Over the years my husband has bought me the series on DVD and I watch them over and over again.
Other favorite movies of mine include:
Northern Lights (Based on the Nora Roberts Book)
Hope Floats, Catch & Release, Horse Whisperer, Songcatcher, Flicka and The Notebook.
I love to read historical romances as well and my favorite authors include Carolyn Davidson and Cheryl St. John.
Now if you gals don't mind me asking,

How have you been spending your winter evening and if it's with a book or TV then what are some of your favorites when it comes to titles and authors?

I've been reading through and DROOLING over the seed catalogs and gardening books! Have you seen where to expand your garden space, you can cut the tops out of topsoil bags and plant your plant right in there? I'm gonna try it! Northern Lights and Horse Whisperer I've seen and liked:)
Carmen,
Yes I have gardening ideas dancing in my head. It's that time of the year to begin thinking about it all and I can't wait to get outdoors and make it all happen.
I love the Love Comes Softly series too.....they are so good! :)
I have been planing my garden...that's what I do in Feb...not sure why since I can't plant my garden until the end of May! :) Come say hi.
I look at seed catalogs and nursury catalogs, even though nothing grows in this darned desert. We even have to water the cactus.
I read the Lord of the Rings over and over...and The Hobbit...Vanity Fair...anything on Leibniz, Newton, Descartes, or Voltaire...
I love those movies too! I haven't seen quite all of them yet, though. I've been watching a lot of the Olympics lately and also some Netflix streamed to my computer or TV.
When I get old I tell myself I'll drink coffee, quilt and watch lots of movies (that I'll remember) -- well I'm not old enough yet... Haven't ever drank coffee, don't have time yet for quilting and I do watch some tv and occasional movies -- I need to spend my winter nights on cleaning projects and catching up on scrapbooking!
Lately, I have been re-reading Paksenarrian by Elizabeth Moon. And I've been watching old Sherlock Holmes movies. And I have been spending a lot of time reading blogs. LOL
oh.. thanks for the heads up on the series coming on the Hallmark Channel. I've never seen any of those movies so I've marked my calendar. I too love romantic settings in my books. I try to read a couple romance novels then read a mystery or biography in between. I just bought The Notebook dvd last night at Walmart for a night when I want a little romance in my life and dh is out of town.. lol. Have a great day!
Hugs,
stella
We LOVE those movies too!
I'm planning my garden, too. It's been a long Nebraska winter.
The movies I watch over and over are Hope Floats, Sense and Sensibility, Bounce, Notting Hill, The Con, Pay it Forward, A Walk in the Clouds, Far and Away, plus more. My comfort read authors are LaVyrle Spencer, Megan Chance, Jill Marie Landis and Lisa Gregory.
I enjoyed reading thata my books are on your faavorite list.
Smooches!
Hey! I LOVE reading anything by Mary Kay Andrews...she's from Atlanta, GA and loves to go junkin'. She incorporates all of this (southern cookin, yard sales, estate sales, mystery, etc) into some wonderful tales! If you get bored, check her out! I also love to sit and crochet or just spend time making easy crafts with my 4 yr old son! By the way, I made your cabbage soup awhile back with the rice and meat--it was SOO tasty! Have a great evening!
